EPDM rubber surfacing is the combination of rubber granules, mixed together with a polyurethane binder. These 2 ingredients, once cured, make for a great non-slip and impact absorbing safety surface. The different colour mixes of EPDM surfacing are limitless. We stock over 18 different colours that can be mixed at almost ratio with other colours. EPDM surfacing can look great for any application site.

There are multiple ways to install EPDM surfacing. The most common way are with hand finishing equipment. Although labour intense, this is usually the best end look for EPDM surfacing. The EPDM rubber granules are mixed with the polyurethane binder at the mixing station until the binder has been evenly distributed on all the rubber granules. It is then brought to the application site for installation. Depending on local temperatures and humidity, working times of rubber can vary. It’s best to ensure that the rubber is installed within 15 minutes after being taken out of the mixer. Once the rubber is on the ground, the rubber is evenly spread around and hand trowelled with a finished concrete trowel. The thickness of the EPDM cap can vary as well, but typically, ⅜” should be the minimum finished thickness.

Thickness can vary depending on the application requirements. Most applications are applied at ⅜”-½”, with a recommended minimum thickness of ⅜”.

Yes, one of the best things about EPDM surfacing is that it is totally customizable. With over 18 different colour options, and no limits on the different sizes and shapes of the different areas, pour-in-place rubber surfacing is a great safe surfacing product that can add to a playful or architectural design requirement.

Thanks to the properties of rubber in general, the elasticity and flexibility of rubber surfacing ensures that it can take a beating in pretty harsh climates. Like any other material, rubber when put in harsh conditions should be maintained and looked after. But with proper care and maintenance, EPDM rubber surfacing will have no problem lasting in extreme hot or cold environments.

Yes, EPDM surfacing has great UV resistance. Although local temperatures and UV index can play a factor, EPDM rubber granules are designed with the outdoors in mind.

Yes it can. Your installer would simply cut out the damaged area to make straight lines. Mix up new rubber surfacing in the same colour mix of your original installation, and then apply it to the cut out area as if it were a new application site. Once cured, you should be back up and running.
